{"id":5832,"date":"2016-07-08T07:04:18","date_gmt":"2016-07-08T07:04:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kibo.energy\/?p=5832"},"modified":"2016-07-08T07:04:18","modified_gmt":"2016-07-08T07:04:18","slug":"mbeya-coal-power-project-completes-definitive-mining-feasibility-study","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kibo.energy\/index.php\/mbeya-coal-power-project-completes-definitive-mining-feasibility-study\/","title":{"rendered":"Mbeya Coal to Power Project Completes Definitive Mining Feasibility Study"},"content":{"rendered":"<h5>08\/07\/2016<\/h5>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Kibo Mining plc (&#8220;Kibo&#8221; or the &#8220;Company&#8221;) (AIM: KIBO; AltX: KBO), the Tanzania focussed mineral exploration and development company, is pleased to announce the \u00a0completion of the Mining\u00a0 Definitive \u00a0Feasibility \u00a0Study (\u201cMDFS\u201d) of the Mbeya Coal to Power Project (\u201cMCPP\u201d).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The MDFS comprised the optimization of the mine design, a detailed mine design based on the results from the restated Mbeya Coal Resource (RNS dated 11 April 2016) and the final coal requirement for the Mbeya Power Station as stated in the Power Definitive Feasibility Study (\u201cPDFS\u201d) (RNS dated 4 May 2016). Results from the MDFS correlate accurately with those of the Mining Pre-Feasibility Study (\u201cMPFS\u201d) (RNS dated 12 August 2015) and have reconfirmed the Mbeya Coal Mine as a robust project with strong financial and commercial indicators.<\/p>\n<p>Key results from the MDFS are the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>IRR 69.2% (15% improvement \u00a0from 53.9% stated in the MPFS);<\/li>\n<li>Payback period 2.4 years (7% improvement \u00a0from 2.6 years stated in the MPFS);<\/li>\n<li>Peak funding requirement USD 17 \u00a0Million \u00a0(reduced \u00a0by \u00a054% \u00a0from \u00a0that \u00a0identified \u00a0in MPFS);<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Power station coal requirement over the life of the plant was reduced by 23% from that identified in the MPFS, bringing about significant \u00a0environmental \u00a0and \u00a0cost \u00a0benefits. \u00a0<strong style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">NOTE:<\/strong><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\"> The mining method developed for the Mbeya coal mine ensures \u00a0that \u00a0all coal seams can be mined with great accuracy, which guarantees that coal is delivered to the power plant at a reliable and consistent \u00a0calorific \u00a0value \u00a0(\u201cCV\u201d). \u00a0The \u00a0reliability \u00a0in receiving coal at a consistent CV was critical for the \u00a0power \u00a0plant \u00a0design \u00a0to \u00a0ensure optimal fuel efficiencies. \u00a0The MDFS mining method made it possible to design a power station that required significantly less coal for the same output \u00a0i.e. \u00a01 840 \u00a0GWh \u00a0per annum. Although this will result in a linear reduction of revenue for the coal mine, this is more than recovered in cost savings for the power plant which is most sensitive to fuel costs.
